There are several students who have not submitted the field assignment, ”Who are your learners?”. Please email asap or make arrangements to drop it off to your instructor. Also, you must return your IPP (white form from pre-internship) on Monday morning - be sure to fill out “Student’s Comments” and sign it. Some of your advisors will fill out their section after forms are collected and handed in.

Today in class you will start working on your Action Projects.  Here is a template you can use for the project. template-for-action-project-proposal.docThis is an editable Word document.

Good luck!

There will be a workshop offered on Friday, March 28, 2008 from 8:30-9:20 a.m. (our lab time) in the TPC called “Getting a Job:  Resumes and Portfolios.”  This workshop will be delivered by Kevin Bolen from the Student Services Centre. He will be offering advice on how to design your resume and portfolio for getting a summer job and your first teaching job. We strongly encourage you to attend.

Monday’s class was spent debriefing your three-week block and brainstorming ideas for the Action Project.  We will continue with this in Wednesday’s class.  Please bring the following things to class on Wednesday:

 1)  “Who are your learners?” Assignment (if you haven’t submitted it already)

2)  Your Pre-Internship IPP: Be sure you have written your comments in the space provided, signed it, and made a copy for your records.  If your faculty advisor has not yet signed it or made comments, hand it in anyway.

3) Bring a laptop to class, if you have one.

NOTE:  Your final reflective piece is due April 9.   Please refer to the syllabus to refresh your memory about the assignment. If you have any questions about it, contact your instructor.

Hello everyone!  I hope everything is going well in your three-week block.  This is a reminder about your “Who are your learners?” Field Assignment for EPS 350.  This is taken directly from the syllabus.  If you have any questions, please email your instructor.

Through interaction with students (in class, informal conversations, extracurricular activities, observation, student assignments, and so on), you will explore who your learners are, what is important to them, their strength and desires, and the contexts in which they live. Take note of the common themes and patterns that begin to emerge. You may document these stories using some form of journally such as writing, sketching, field notes, collage, or audio voice recording.  Come to class on Monday, March 24, 2008 prepared to share the story of who your learners are. The focus of this is the process and content, not the way it is presented.

Below is a message from one of your peers in EPS 350:

Three weeks in the classroom means 21 days without the camaraderie of the pre-service high school education students. It is scary, but this nightmare can be averted if you accept the following invitation.

Where: The Owl
When: 4:30 Every Friday of our three week block (Feb 29, Mar 7, March 14)
Why: An opportunity to know your pre-service peers and network - Let’s face it, someone in our cohort may be
responsible for connecting you with a future teaching position. Besides, it’s a great way to debrief a week of teaching.

Fight fear one Friday at a time.

Congratulations to all who presented at WestCAST. The evaluations of the conference were very good and people particularly appreciated all the wonderful presentations by students.

Take a look at the WestCAST slide show. You may see some familiar faces.

Showcase:  If you plan to attend STF Showcase 2008 on February 28/29, please give your money ($10 per day) to your EPS instructor OR slide it under Carol Fulton’s office (ED 336) by Friday, February 15
