We now have a wiki for you to post your subject area presentation materials onto.

No original name came to mind so it is just…

http://eps350.uregina.wikispaces.net/

Choose one group member to Join the Wiki so he/she will have access to posting materials.

We have had SUCH excellent subject area presentations -  MATH, MUSIC, SCIENCE and SOCIAL SCIENCES.

You are invited and encouraged to provide positive feedback to these groups. Think about things like…What did you learn? What did you appreciate? What did you admire? What did you notice? What connections did you make to your own subject area? What surprised you? Share an ‘aha’ moment or something that you are going to take and use in your own teaching. These are only suggestions – feel free to respond to whatever was meaningful to you.

I know your peers will appreciate your feedback. So… go ahead Section 20 and add a comment to this posting and don’t forget to put your name to your posting as I need to approve comments before they appear.

Thanks!
~ Julie~

Yes, it is true. University classes are cancelled today but the university is open. It was announced on the radio – I double checked online – here’s the website.

This morning we will have a work period for Subject Area groups in the TPC (for those who are able to get to class) as many students are unable to attend due to weather. We will reschedule the Classroom Management session for Wednesday and meet in the TPC at 8:30.

Carol, Julie & Richard

Richard will be giving a presentation on various theories of classroom management on Monday, January 25  at 8:30. Please be prompt. We will follow up with discussion in our own classrooms at 9:30. Time will also be given for you to meet in your subject areas.

Always listen to your intuition when teaching. I ignored mine this morning when it told me not to make such an abrupt transition from a very serious, emotional topic to a role play to introduce our lesson. It felt not quite right in the pit of my stomach– almost dismissive of the topic we had just discussed. Yet, because time was of the essence, I proceeded anyway with the unrehearsed exchange between a “superintendent” and teacher. The gentleman’s comment that this had him confused, undoubtedly reflected many of your thoughts. As a teacher I always reflect on my actions after a class and my actions did not sit well with me. If you too, felt disturbed by this abrupt transition, let it be a “gift” or lesson from me to you, so you don’t make the same mistake.

I trust you will, however, consider how we might individually or collectively support the people of Haiti in their time of need and great sorrow.

In peace and hope,
Carol
